Snow and Glitter Nails

Hi babes!

Welcome to my bedroom :). I took a day to work on my nails and my toes. I know many of us avoid doing our toes because it’s winter, but doing your toes are important too so please don’t neglect them. I’ve also found that doing my nails more often prevents them from chipping and breaking. If I go without doing my nails for more than a week or two, it’s almost guaranteed that they will break.

I know another reason we sometimes get lazy with our nails is because they take a long time to dry. One tip I suggest, is to do your nails before going to bed. After you’ve brushed your teeth and you’re wearing your PJ’s and you have no other reason to move then do your nails.

Another tip I found is get a wide cup and add cold water once you’re done doing your nails place them in cold water and this helps them dry faster!

Also whenever you add glitter to your nails be sure to first add a base coat and then a top coat. I have found that when I didn’t add a base coat it was so much harder to remove the nail polish the following week and it you don’t add a top coat then the glitter tangles up on your clothes or your hair.

2014 A Furry New Year

Hi TTC Readers!

Happy belated 2014 :) I’ve been working on a few projects, on my career and I’ve met someone who I’m happily getting to know :) which left me with less time to post. I’m back and ready to kick off the first post of The Trend Crush on 2014!

As you can see from these shots New York was recently bombarded with snow. I chose to wear my grandmother’s gift, this beautiful fur coat, which really kept me warm and allowed me to wear my pink pumps ;). I accessorized and kept warm by adding a print scarf and my Calvin Klein handbag.

I want to thank everyone who reached out to me waiting patiently for my next post!

Enjoy and have a great day!

Mixing and Matching Mascara and Mascara Brushes

Good morning TTC peeps!

I recently purchased Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Waterproof Mascara and to be honest I was not 100% happy. The brush didn’t really help spread and lengthen my lashes :(. However, I did like the texture of the mascara because it was thick but not full of clumps. So, I decided to use Benefit Cosmetics They’Re Real! Mascara‘s brush with Rimmel’s mascara :)

I also wanted to use lighter colors, which I usually don’t use because they make my eyes look smaller, but since my eye lashes are going to look extra thick and long they’ll make up for the lighter eye shadow. This palette is old and no longer available for sale but I did find a similar one with a variety of colors ;) SHANY Eyeshadow Palette, Boutique, 40 Color.

I also found  E.l.f. Cosmetics Piece Brush Set, an affordable 10 piece brush set that would also make a nice gift! I used the second and fourth brushes from the right side to apply green eye shadow around both my lower and upper lids.

Once you’ve outlined your eye with green eye-shadow go ahead and add a light blue eye shadow above the green outline.

Next, go ahead and use the mascara brush from Benefit Cosmetics They’Re Real! Mascara and dip it into the Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Waterproof Mascara.DSCN2099 DSCN2115 DSCN2116

Finally add some lip color using Avon Extra Lasting Lipstick SPF 15 Totally Twig.

Enjoy and have a great day!

How to Achieve Goldilocks’ Curls

Good morning everyone!

I thought it would be appropriate with my new hair color to play Goldilocks :). I think this look is very cute although I will not lie it did take about an hour to complete. I’m trying very hard not to damage my hair because I did just dye it recently, so I’m taking some precautions.

I purchased L’Oreal Advanced Hair Care Color Vibrancy Trio, which includes a shampoo, conditioner, and a heat/color protecting spray. I could tell the difference in my hair right after the first time I used the conditioner and shampoo. Prior to that my hair was dry and like most girls play a lot with my hair. Not really on purpose but I tend to move it from side to side and since it was dry every time I moved it, it looked stiff and frizzy.

After I used L’Oreal Advanced Hair Care Color Vibrancy Trio I could move it without having to think that it would look like a pile of hay afterwards. I also like that it doesn’t make my hair oily, which was another side effect I experienced with my last conditioner.

I also purchased the Infiniti Pro by Conair Xtreme Instant Heat Ceramic Rollers and I have to say they did their job! Prior to owning these rollers I had my mom’s heat rollers which were made from plastic and so when you would pick them up from the heated platform they would burn your fingers! These rollers however are ceramic flocked rollers which have something like a thin foam over that won’t burn your fingers.

I found that if you purchase them from Amazon they come out to $36.92 but if you purchase them from other retailers like Macy’s they come out to $59.00.

Check out my homemade video and try them for yourself.

Video Recap:

Since the video goes by pretty quickly I thought it might be helpful to summarize the steps.

1. Separate your wet hair into two sections add L’Oreal Advanced Hair Care Color Protecting Spray and blow-dry first one section then the other section of hair.

2. Apply Fantasia High Potency IC Heat Protector Serum to reduce frizz and heat damage.

3. Separate your hair into sections once more. Apply Aqua Net Extra Super Hold Unscented Aerosol Hair Spray and brush your hair after you’ve sprayed it. Do this to each section of hair before adding the heat rollers.

4. Begin adding your Heat Ceramic Rollers. Make sure that the ends of your hair are curled into each roller correctly. Otherwise you’ll get weird shaped ends.

5. Wait 30 minutes before removing the rollers.

6. Remove each roller carefully. Once you’re done, use your fingers to gently separate your curls to give you more volume. Don’t use a brush because you’ll get an afro.

Longer Fuller Eyelashes ;)

Happy Beautician’s Day!

I thought it would be fun for Beautician’s day to do a small intro on applying make-up and more specifically on making your eyelashes look longer and fuller. I’ve been asked a few times if I wear fake eyelashes, which I’ve never worn and it’s probably because they look much thicker and longer after I’ve applied mascara. I’ll also share with you how I apply lipstick :).

Before                                                                                        After

1. Use a thick brush to add a light skin toned eyeshadow from the inner lid, where your eye starts all the way across to where your eye ends. Next I add the same color to the crease and above the crease from the center moving outward. I then add it to the area right below the eyebrow and I extend it all the way to where your eyebrow ends. Now you might notice that your eyebrow ends further out than where your eye ends, which is normal. You’ll even out the make-up making a diagonal line with your eyeshadow from where your eye ends to where your eyebrow ends.

2. Use a thin brush and brown or black eyeshadow and trace your eyelid to where your eye ends.

And now for the fun part! :) How to apply mascara. I use “They’re Real!” by benefit because they are real ;). I’m kidding, I use this mascara because I love the wand, it separates your eyelashes so that they don’t stick together and you don’t get spider lashes. I’ve also found that tip of the wand is unique because it as bristles.

Screen Shot 2013-06-25 at 11.26.03 PM

3. I first use the bristles on the long part of the wand to separate my lashes and give them the first layer of mascara. With mascara I work from the outside of the eye to the inside. I then use the tip of the wand, which has the most liquid, and I go over them again. This time they should begin to look thicker but because of the bristles on tip they should not stick together. If you find that they are sticking together use a small lash comb like the one below.

4. I then repeat the same process with the lower lashes.

Screen Shot 2013-06-25 at 11.44.08 PM

5. I then use the thinner corner of my red lipstick to outline my lips. Then I fill-in the center of the lips with lipstick and then I press my lips together.

These are the products I used.

And this was the final product ;)

Have a great day!

Let’s Talk About Flaws

“I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions.”
― Augusten BurroughsMagical Thinking: True Stories

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today I would like to invite you to flaunt something you believe is a flaw or a look that you would not normally be confident about. I, for one, generally dislike the way my hair looks when it’s up. My hypothesis is that at some point my mother noticed that my hair was dirty and so I put it up. Ever since then she guesses that my hair is dirty when I put it up. I also have an image in my head in which my cheeks look much larger when my hair is up. As women the more we look in the mirror the more imperfections we find. As it turns out other people don’t notice these flaws and they are more of a reflection of  how you see yourself than what is actually there. If your hair is generally straight I invite you to add mouse and blow dry your curls. I have a friend who thinks her legs are too thin, today I invite her to wear a skirt :). I would love to hear what compliments or reactions you’ll hear from your friends, family and co-workers.

As for today’s outfit, I was inspired by the beautiful weather we had this past Sunday. I thought a flower print top, red wedges and a a striped purse fit perfectly with this weather as they represent all the colors of summer.

Have a wonderful day and stay tuned! Tomorrow I’m sharing my birthday dress you with you :).
