2014 A Furry New Year

Hi TTC Readers!

Happy belated 2014 :) I’ve been working on a few projects, on my career and I’ve met someone who I’m happily getting to know :) which left me with less time to post. I’m back and ready to kick off the first post of The Trend Crush on 2014!

As you can see from these shots New York was recently bombarded with snow. I chose to wear my grandmother’s gift, this beautiful fur coat, which really kept me warm and allowed me to wear my pink pumps ;). I accessorized and kept warm by adding a print scarf and my Calvin Klein handbag.

I want to thank everyone who reached out to me waiting patiently for my next post!

Enjoy and have a great day!

How to Achieve Goldilocks’ Curls

DSCN1415

Good morning everyone!

I thought it would be appropriate with my new hair color to play Goldilocks :). I think this look is very cute although I will not lie it did take about an hour to complete. I’m trying very hard not to damage my hair because I did just dye it recently, so I’m taking some precautions.

DSCN1417

I purchased L’Oreal Advanced Hair Care Color Vibrancy Trio, which includes a shampoo, conditioner, and a heat/color protecting spray. I could tell the difference in my hair right after the first time I used the conditioner and shampoo. Prior to that my hair was dry and like most girls play a lot with my hair. Not really on purpose but I tend to move it from side to side and since it was dry every time I moved it, it looked stiff and frizzy.
DSCN1416

After I used L’Oreal Advanced Hair Care Color Vibrancy Trio I could move it without having to think that it would look like a pile of hay afterwards. I also like that it doesn’t make my hair oily, which was another side effect I experienced with my last conditioner.

I also purchased the Infiniti Pro by Conair Xtreme Instant Heat Ceramic Rollers and I have to say they did their job! Prior to owning these rollers I had my mom’s heat rollers which were made from plastic and so when you would pick them up from the heated platform they would burn your fingers! These rollers however are ceramic flocked rollers which have something like a thin foam over that won’t burn your fingers.

I found that if you purchase them from Amazon they come out to $36.92 but if you purchase them from other retailers like Macy’s they come out to $59.00.

Check out my homemade video and try them for yourself.

Video Recap:

Since the video goes by pretty quickly I thought it might be helpful to summarize the steps.

1. Separate your wet hair into two sections add L’Oreal Advanced Hair Care Color Protecting Spray and blow-dry first one section then the other section of hair.

2. Apply Fantasia High Potency IC Heat Protector Serum to reduce frizz and heat damage.

3. Separate your hair into sections once more. Apply Aqua Net Extra Super Hold Unscented Aerosol Hair Spray and brush your hair after you’ve sprayed it. Do this to each section of hair before adding the heat rollers.

4. Begin adding your Heat Ceramic Rollers. Make sure that the ends of your hair are curled into each roller correctly. Otherwise you’ll get weird shaped ends.

5. Wait 30 minutes before removing the rollers.

6. Remove each roller carefully. Once you’re done, use your fingers to gently separate your curls to give you more volume. Don’t use a brush because you’ll get an afro.

Road Trip to a Farm!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re having a wonderful week. As you’ve probably noticed this week I am focusing on my trip through Florida. Not to worry, I will get back to talking about my outfits whenever possible :). I am traveling through Florida with my best friend Jennifer who lives in New York but who has a lot of family here in Florida. Jennifer’s younger brother Michael is a great kid. He’s reminded me about doing things that adults no longer think about, he was responsible for encouraging me to do a cannon ball into the pool and to make an attempt at diving into the pool yesterday :). More recently as we were waiting for our Dominos pizza in the parking lot, he suddenly climbed to the roof of our little rental car in two swift steps! It didn’t take long before Jennifer and I climbed up the car to join him :).

Getting to know Michael has been a pleasure because being the youngest child in my family I am completely out of touch with the New York high school scene. It’s been fun and interesting seeing Michael’s point of view on different topics some of which I was not exposed to when I was his age. One topic which I knew about when I was growing up was that in New York City you have to be very careful about the colors you choose to wear in certain neighborhoods. For example, you shouldn’t wear red and black or yellow and black because these colors are associated with certain gangs. Unfortunately, one day Michael chose to wear red sneakers to school and to a park nearby. He and his friends were approached by a group of kids from one of these streets gangs at which point they denied any association to this gang. They were able to get away easily but Michael was witness to another boy being threatened by knife point. Michael was able to get away and find refuge at a friend’s house nearby and he was able to make it home safely the following morning.  It’s a shame that high school kids are put through these kinds of tests but I’m glad Michael was able to get out of that situation safely.

Earlier this week we were all invited to visit uncle Mousie and his wife Donna. I was told that their home is like a small farm! We said goodbye to the beautiful downtown skyline and made our way to some very secluded roads. Their home was about an hour away from Orlando and I panicked a little when I realized that my phone had lost service. As we drove further and further out into the woods we came across a few interesting signs, some of which included bear warnings and a sign of a man on horseback. Soon we arrived and were welcomed by her family. They took us around their property and showed us their beautiful little horses. They also own about ten birds, five chickens, two rabbits, five dogs and are occasionally visited by a large turtle and some bears. Fortunately, the entire property is gated by an electric wire just incase the bears are attempted to walk into the property.

Jennifer’s dad, Victor, manned the grill and cooked us a great barbecue. We talked about life in this part of Florida, which involves always being prepared. Since stores are so far away, Mousie’s family has to stack-up on groceries and other necessities because if they suddenly run out of milk the nearest store is at least thirty minutes away.  Another downside to having your own miniature Noah’s arch is that no one will deliver food to you and I don’t blame them. If I were a delivery person I would not be happy driving 30-45 minutes for a $2 tip. However, Mousie and Donna love their home very much and have no intentions on moving.

After dinner Mousie made a fire for me so I could introduce them to my favorite camping dessert, S’mores :D! Since it was a full house, which included Jennifer’s dad, Victor, his wife, his daughter, Michael, Mousie, Donna, Mousie’s three kids and Michael’s cousin Sebastian, Jennifer and I , I had my hands full. I must have made at least 30-40  S’mores :).  Not a single S’more was leftover! It was a lot of fun and I’m very grateful for their hospitality.  I added a few picture from the trip below.

Enjoy and have wonderful day!

–Cindy

Hi Everyone,

Happy Friday! I’m excited to announce that this Sunday one of my closest friends and I are doing a bit of a road trip. I’m extremely excited! We will be headed first to Orlando to visit her family and then we will drive down to Miami, where our friend Carolina lives. We’ve been to Miami in the past but the last time I went to Orlando I was eight years old and I was mostly there to visit Disney World. I’m going to have to do a bit of research to find out what else there is to do there. If any of you know of any places to visit please comment on this post to give me some direction. I’ll try to add photos of our trip and notes on where we went and what we did as they come :).

About My Outfit

I fell in love with the beautiful jumpsuit! I love the color black, lace and all things backless and this jumpsuit combines them all. I also like that it’s loose and if you don’t look to closely you might think it’s a dress. I paired it with mostly gold accessories and a Michael Kors leapard print handbag.

Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you had a great Monday, as great as that can get ;). I stopped by Zara yesterday and fell in love with many dresses, shoes and skirts. I’m definitely going back for more. I also realized that many of the pieces I liked were on sale, that’s always a plus :). I found this awesome skirt with suspenders, which I thought was pretty awesome and unique. I paired it with a polka-dot crop top from Forever 21 and these awesome stripped shoes also from Zara.

Enjoy and have a wonderful Tuesday!

Hi Everyone,

The weather in New York has been very hot and humid this past week with an average of about 90 degrees fahrenheit each day. By the way, I’m not complaining I LOVE the heat, it inspired this tropical outfit :).

About My Outfit

I bought this dress many years ago, probably five years ago but the theme of summer never gets old. I paired the outfit with shoes I bought from Forever 21 and a summer hat I bought in April during my trip to Peru. The hat was definitely a bargain specially considering that I bought it near one of the ancient ruins. I felt like Indiana Jones :).

Also, I wanted to invite you to opt-in to receive newsletter updates from The Trend Crush. I’m doing a small giveaway, if you opt-in from now until the August 8th you’ll enter to win a $25 Amex Gift Card. To enter click on the link at the top right. Good luck!

Enjoy and have a wonderful day!

Shoes: Nine West Bezel

Dress: Tropical Floral Cutout Dress

Good morning!

I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! This is sad to admit but I had never gone to Manhattan to see the fireworks show until this year. My family and I had always watched the show from Astoria, but now that the fireworks moved over to the Hudson river we had to relocate. It was a beautiful display of fireworks. Hopefully next year we’ll be able to watch them from the actual river and ideally while enjoying a glass of wine :).

About My Outfit

I brought this dress at Macy’s a few years back and I love the flower pattern because it’s not your traditional flower pattern. It includes lines of color and the larger “flowers” are more like circles with small leafs. My absolute favorite part of this dress are the pockets. Women don’t normally get a chance to use pockets because they’re usually only available when we’re wearing jeans and then jeans are usually tight on us so we really can’t seem to fit anything in there. I paired this dress with my favorite Nine West shoes which are now on sale and if you buy a second pair it will be half off ;).

Enjoy and have a wonderful day!
