2014 A Furry New Year

Hi TTC Readers!

Happy belated 2014 :) I’ve been working on a few projects, on my career and I’ve met someone who I’m happily getting to know :) which left me with less time to post. I’m back and ready to kick off the first post of The Trend Crush on 2014!

As you can see from these shots New York was recently bombarded with snow. I chose to wear my grandmother’s gift, this beautiful fur coat, which really kept me warm and allowed me to wear my pink pumps ;). I accessorized and kept warm by adding a print scarf and my Calvin Klein handbag.

I want to thank everyone who reached out to me waiting patiently for my next post!

Enjoy and have a great day!

Winter Fun and an Update on the Monogram Contest!

I hope you had a very exciting or a very restful weekend! It was a very eventful weekend for me, my friend and photographer Santiago Mejia is leaving for Kuwait. Santi is in the military, he was drafted and is actually on his way to Kuwait probably as I am writing this post. I want to thank him for taking the time to take hundreds of pictures and making this such a great and enjoyable experience for me. My brother decided to get all of his close friends and family together for a see-you-soon send off party and it was very much like the movie Hangover lol. I hope you will join me in sending the best of luck on this trip.

As far as today’s outfit goes, I really like these tights because they have a very common pattern, the houndstooth pattern, but you never would have expected it on tights! Since they standout so much, in and of themselves, I chose to combine them with a black romper and this beautiful Michael Kors jacket.

I’m also very happy to report that The Trend Crush came in fourth on the Monogram contest!! The lovely people at Monogram reached out for an interview! Be sure to check out the interview here.

Trendy and Chic with the Tart Collections!

Happy Monday TTC Readers!

DSCN1231This Monday I am flaunting my elegant Patrice dress from the Tart Collections’s fall line! For those of you who are not familiar with Tart Collections, they are a chic California clothing brand that launched in 2004.  They have an awesome Hollywood following including Alessandra Ambrosio, Heidi Klum, Kourtney Kardashian, Katy Perry, Nicky Hilton and now me :).

All items from Tart Collection are available online. I ordered a size XS, which is fitted on my body and goes along with my style. If you prefer dresses that are less fitted on you, you might want to try a size up.  What’s great about this style is that it flaunts the curves on your body. The dress has a silver zipper, which is great because over time the fabric won’t stretch as much as it would if it didn’t have a zipper. The fabric is 95% modal, which is smooth and soft, more so than mercerized cotton and it is also 5% spandex. This dress has a built-in shelf-bra which provides support, but because it is not padded and does not have wires it is extremely comfortable.

I actually wore this dress to club 230 Fifth in Manhattan and on my way to there I received a few catcalls lol, which I think is a good sign ;). It was perfect because since the weather is getting colder the long sleeves where perfect and while at the club I danced for about two hours  and the dress was perfect because when I warmed up I just rolled the sleeves up a bit and I was back to normal. All in all it is a beautiful, elegant dress that is also comfortable and can be worn from day to night.

My Issues with Cinderella

Have you ever wondered why as little girls we are shown all these movies that as adults don’t exactly help us? There’s prince charming and there “you” are either as a maid to your evil step sisters or stuck on the tallest of towers or just some how in some kind of distress. In comes your “prince charming” to save you from whichever situation you are in and he sweeps you away from all your troubles. I won’t ever understand what the moral of this story was.

I guess you have to consider the fact that the earliest version of the Cinderella story was written in 1697. For fun lets pretend you were alive in the 1600s and that you were incredibly poor. Say you knew the only way to move up in society was to find yourself a wealthy husband. In 2013 you would be considered a gold-digger. There is a huge difference in perspective from the 1600’s to 2013 and so maybe we should think of this as a dated story that no longer applies to us.

I don’t know about you, but this story has been drilled into our heads and sometimes it’s hard to let go. However, when I think about it realistically, even when I was in relationships, my significant other could not save me from whatever problems I had to deal with. When I was in college I couldn’t just dropout and run away with my boyfriend in order to escape my finals. I could and sometimes did attempt to study with him, but that didn’t work out. I was more of a loner when it came to studying. I couldn’t learn with other people talking to me in the same room. I had to figure things out for myself.

This idea of thinking for yourself is one of the most valuable things any little girl can learn, this should be what little girls see in the movie theater. Aside from the fact that it is unrealistic to be taken away by your boyfriend when life gets hard it is also, I would imagine, unappealing for men when their girlfriend is always looking to them to resolve their problems.

I’m not trying to hate on men, when they are supportive and they help you resolve issues they are great, but this should not be the focus of these movies. You can have an amazing boyfriend or friends who help you, but at the end of the day you need to be able and willing to safe yourself.

As far as my outfit goes, I can’t deny that I love pink in most shades including this one. This is my favorite sweater and I’m sure I will wear it again for the blog. It’s cozy, comfortable and warm :). This skirt is new and it’s from Zara I love that it’s extremely girly. I realize how this might contradict my mentality about not agreeing with the typical fairytale and then here I am wearing pink and a girly skirt. However, I love the look and feel of this outfit even though I don’t agree with the teachings of these girly fairytales. You can’t help but like what you like :).

Stripes and Roses

Good morning everyone!

It’s a cold rainy day in New York. The weather is unpredictable right now, there are days when it’s hot and humid and then there are other days when it’s cold and windy. This weather reminds me of pumpkins.

A couple of years back I was in a serious relationship, it was around fall when everything turned to pieces and we could no longer make things work. It’s always difficult once you and a significant other have established some sort of routine because once the relationship is over you can really feel the absence of this person’s presence. My uncle Tony noticed that I was not copping very well and so he took me and my grandmother pumpkin picking. It was a very cute gesture, as a child I had always just gone to the supermarket, bought a pumpkin and painted it and that was the end of it. That year we went to this park in Long Island and there were thousands of pumpkins, some were huge and others fit on the palm of my hand. There were also some that were light colored and others that were very dark and crooked.

We bought two small pumpkins and came home to bake, what turned out to be four delicious pumpkin pies. Two of them were your original pumpkin pie and the other two were pumpkin cheese cake. What amazed us was the amount of purée that come out of these small pumpkins. We had to go back to the supermarket to buy more crust because we only had two pie crusts when we started. It was a lot of delicious fun making these pies with my uncle. Ever since then whenever fall arrives I begin to crave pumpkin pie, it’s become my fall comfort food and the closest I’ve gotten to a pumpkin pie is the pumpkin spiced latte from Starbucks lol. I guess this is my equivalent of the phrase “When life gives you lemons make lemonade”.
