2014 A Furry New Year

Hi TTC Readers!

Happy belated 2014 :) I’ve been working on a few projects, on my career and I’ve met someone who I’m happily getting to know :) which left me with less time to post. I’m back and ready to kick off the first post of The Trend Crush on 2014!

As you can see from these shots New York was recently bombarded with snow. I chose to wear my grandmother’s gift, this beautiful fur coat, which really kept me warm and allowed me to wear my pink pumps ;). I accessorized and kept warm by adding a print scarf and my Calvin Klein handbag.

I want to thank everyone who reached out to me waiting patiently for my next post!

Enjoy and have a great day!

How to Wear a Button-down 4 Ways

Happy Friday!

I hope you had a great week! I recently purchased a plaid button-down, it was the last plaid item I was missing and I’ve seen it in so many places and worn in a variety of different ways, which I thought would be fun to share. The first style in which this shirt can be worn is like a light jacket, which makes a lot of sense for fall.

The second option is around the waist and if you want to really play around with this look, you can do it over a skirt so that it looks like it’s part of the skirt.  DSCN1248

The third way in which you can wear this shirt it to button it down the traditional way and either tuck it in your pants or leave it lose over your pants. The fourth way to wear this shirt is to button it, but leave the last two buttons undone and tie them in a knot. DSCN1251 DSCN1252

Long Checkered Sweater <3

Good morning everyone!

I love this new checkered black sweater it’s from Forever 21 and it is so comfortable. I guess this is another favorite thing I can add to my short list of things I like about cold weather. The first that I absolutely love is that feeling when you’re a bit cold and you get into bed and put a giant comforter or blanket on you until all your body is covered and nice and toastie :). The second would be this, wearing a nice, big, soft sweater. I paired it with a very fun button down, which has a neon pink collar and neon pink cuffs. I also added shorts because New York weather right now starts off cold but warms up during the day. I’m very close with my family as you might have been able to tell from my posts. My grandmother dislikes this kind of look because the sweater and shirt are very long and my shorts are very short, so if you walk quickly people might think that you’re wearing the sweater as a dress with nothing underneath. It’s very funny, my grandmother freaks out with these kinds of looks but then I show her and reassure her that there are shorts underneath my sweater :). Just always make sure that the shorts are not shorter than the sweater!

My Issues with Cinderella

Have you ever wondered why as little girls we are shown all these movies that as adults don’t exactly help us? There’s prince charming and there “you” are either as a maid to your evil step sisters or stuck on the tallest of towers or just some how in some kind of distress. In comes your “prince charming” to save you from whichever situation you are in and he sweeps you away from all your troubles. I won’t ever understand what the moral of this story was.

I guess you have to consider the fact that the earliest version of the Cinderella story was written in 1697. For fun lets pretend you were alive in the 1600s and that you were incredibly poor. Say you knew the only way to move up in society was to find yourself a wealthy husband. In 2013 you would be considered a gold-digger. There is a huge difference in perspective from the 1600’s to 2013 and so maybe we should think of this as a dated story that no longer applies to us.

I don’t know about you, but this story has been drilled into our heads and sometimes it’s hard to let go. However, when I think about it realistically, even when I was in relationships, my significant other could not save me from whatever problems I had to deal with. When I was in college I couldn’t just dropout and run away with my boyfriend in order to escape my finals. I could and sometimes did attempt to study with him, but that didn’t work out. I was more of a loner when it came to studying. I couldn’t learn with other people talking to me in the same room. I had to figure things out for myself.

This idea of thinking for yourself is one of the most valuable things any little girl can learn, this should be what little girls see in the movie theater. Aside from the fact that it is unrealistic to be taken away by your boyfriend when life gets hard it is also, I would imagine, unappealing for men when their girlfriend is always looking to them to resolve their problems.

I’m not trying to hate on men, when they are supportive and they help you resolve issues they are great, but this should not be the focus of these movies. You can have an amazing boyfriend or friends who help you, but at the end of the day you need to be able and willing to safe yourself.

As far as my outfit goes, I can’t deny that I love pink in most shades including this one. This is my favorite sweater and I’m sure I will wear it again for the blog. It’s cozy, comfortable and warm :). This skirt is new and it’s from Zara I love that it’s extremely girly. I realize how this might contradict my mentality about not agreeing with the typical fairytale and then here I am wearing pink and a girly skirt. However, I love the look and feel of this outfit even though I don’t agree with the teachings of these girly fairytales. You can’t help but like what you like :).

Happy Humpday!

Every now and then I like to wear more of a rocker-chic type of outfit. It’s fun and if done right can still look feminine and sexy. The first comment I received when I wore this outfit was, “It looks like it’s a dress.” It’s very true, if you put together a long t-shirt and a short skirt, they’ll blend together and look like a dress, ta-da! Or you can tie the T-shirt in the back and allow it to look short and now you’ll have the typical look, in which you can tell the difference between the top and the skirt. Lastly, if you want to show off more of an hour-glass figure you can tuck-in the top into the skirt.
